At the heart of the mystical Jewish experience at Sinai that made us a people, the Ten Commandments constitute an ethical core that has guided us for three thousand years. Yet they have had influence far beyond Jewish life. The Ten Commandments are widely acknowledged as the bedrock of most religions, legal systems and ethical codes of the Western world. In this inaugural course offered by the Sinai Scholars Society, you will discover why.
Examine the core values that guide a moral society: love and respect, gratitude and loyalty, faith and integrity. Debate opposing principles as you consider the self vs. others, truth vs. kindness, making the most of now vs. sacrificing for future goals. Challenge your assumptions about the good society as you investigate the key issues that confront us as individuals, Jews, and members of the global community.

It’s Judaism’s best kept secret . . . but it shouldn’t be anymore! Everything you wanted to know about Mikvah but didn’t know how to ask. Discover the key component to loving Jewishly.
Class Four - The Jewish Contribution to the Big Ideas of History.
More than monotheism, beyond socialism or nationalism or the rights of man, the Jewish contribution to civilization has resonated for over 3,500 years. What is it?
Class Five – What Does It All Mean to Me, Anyway?
A discussion of life on campus, and in the working world today. Breaking the glass ceiling is no big deal, but where do relationships fit in?
Class Six – Field Trip
Visit Rochester’s Vey Own Mikvah. Meet back at Chabad House for a celebratory luncheon and share reflections.
J.E.M - Jewish Ethics in Medicine
60 minutes, 6 classes. By Rabbi Asher.

We will discuss the following Topics:
1. Genetic Screening
Should we screen for genetic diseases, which ones? who shuld be screened? who Should have access to the data?
2. Beginning of life
Artificial insemination, IVF, surrogate mother, what is Judaism have to ay on all these?
3. Abortion
Does Judaism belive in freedom of choice? isn't Judaism pro life? what does the Torah hold regarding this sensitive issue?
4. End of life
What's Judaism's view on "physician assisted suicide"? Must we prolong the death of an ill patient?
5. Cloning / Stem cell
Is cloning a competition to G‑d? what are the ethical issues with cloning? Judaism's view on stem cell research.
6. Preventative medicine
Is one allowed to smoke? how about drink a can of coke?
